I need a variety of resources to carry out my game plan. The first goal I chose was to create a website that would be helpful to my students and parents. The resources I will need to build the website are a computer with Internet access and communication with the office secretaries in my building to get school schedules, lunch menus, and other documents to put on my personal website. According to Dr. Ross, a website can be used as an organizational tool for many students and parents (Laureate Education Inc., 2008). The additional information I need will come in later when I give the parents and students a survey about how often they use the website and any suggestions for additional information they would like displayed there. My intended learning strategy is to model how to use the website and the different options available to the students and parents. So far I have begun creating the website. I will not be able to introduce the website at meet the teacher night this year because that has passed. However, I will send home a flyer with details about the website when it is completed.

Allison,
ReplyDeleteOn my classroom website I have attached links to surveys that my students created through survey monkey. That is one idea to reach the parents that do use the classroom website. I also introduce my website to the parents and students by giving them a hand out that has pictures and directions of what the screens look like and what steps to take.
On your second goal I had a question about how time consuming putting together assignments with the response systems. I was wondering if the devices that you are going to use are also time consuming to type up every assignment with multiple choice answers.

Allison,
ReplyDeleteActivotes sounds like a very cool tool. Does it work similar to Polleverywhere, which accepts votes from cellphones?
Also, good idea going through with that website. Did you use a particular content management system, like Wordpress, or did you make it all on your own? Websites can be a very good way of relaying information to students and especially curious parents. I can imagine you will get a good response when you mail them the news!

Jenna,
ReplyDeleteMy technology director has conducted surveys with the use of survey monkey. I like that idea a lot. I also like the idea of giving student and parents pictures of the screens so they know exactly what to expect. Putting together assignments with the activotes isn't too time consuming. I use questions from an already made quiz and I only use a few questions.
Dan,
Yes, activotes work very similar to polleverywhere. The students have remotes that they answer multiple choice questions by choosing a letter. I did not use wordpress to make my website. I hope I get a good response from the parents. My fourth grade students misplace papers all the time. With the use of the website, the parents would be able to access information at any time and not worry about their child losing it before they get home.

Websites can be a great way to communicate with students and parents. I created and manage our school's website and was wondering if your school already has a website that contains some of the basic information (like lunch menus) that you are planning on incorporating?
ReplyDeleteSurvey monkey is a great, and easy to use, tool for creating simple surveys. I think that it is a great idea in order to assess how your website is being used.
Your plan for implementation of the site is great. Modeling the use of the website with students and parents is a wonderful idea.
Will you post pictures/names of students on the website?
